The Seventh International Forum on

Political Party and Good Governance

Call for Papers

Despite the fact that material and technological progress in the world today has reached an unprecedentedly high level, imbalanced and inadequate development still presents a major challenge to all countries. While there are increasing political and ideological conflicts between the East and the West, a huge development gap remains the same and serious between the North and the South. The Russia-Ukraine conflict continues unresolved while tensions flare anew in the Israel-Palestine relations. Proliferating political polarization and social division, coupled with the rise of populist and anti-globalization movements, add to the worlds woes. The governance crisis and governance failure are reported and repeated almost everywhere.

Comparative political studies indicate that political parties play the pivotal role in fostering stable and sustainable political development. Since political parties move closer to the center of state power, they bear the responsibility not only of guiding a nation towards good governance but also of promoting amicable international relations worldwide. However, in many countries, the functioning of party politics faces challenges. Instances of infighting and discord plague mainstream parties, directly impairing the nations governance capabilities.

Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Socialist system with Chinese characteristics continues to stabilize and mature, steadily advancing the modernization of the national governance system and its capabilities. On March 15th, 2023, at the “CPC in Dialogue with the World Political Parties High-Level Meeting,” General Secretary Xi Jinping said, The CPC stands ready to share governance experience with political parties and organizations of other countries so that together we can make big strides on the path to modernization toward the goal of building a community with a shared future for mankind.”

At this crucial juncture in history, it is timely and imperative to conduct more in-depth research into critical issues such as party politics and national governance. The Forum on “Political Party and Good Governance”, which commenced in 2018, has been successfully held for six consecutive years, receiving enthusiastic participation and positive responses from scholars both home and abroad. Jointly organized by the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University, the Institute of World Political Parties under the International Department of the Communist Party of China, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, and the Dr. Seaker Chan Center for Comparative Political Studies at Fudan University, the Seventh International Forum on Political Party and Good Governance is scheduled for May 17th-19th, 2024. This forum aims at closely examining and discussing the historical development, governing performance and functional problems of political parties and national governance from comparative perspective. The objective is to build the theoretical consensus in the field of political science, improve researches on political parties and governance, expand academic horizons andpromote theoretical innovation in party politics studies.
