Prof. Ezra Feivel Vogel from Harvard University, the renown scholar, sociologist and winner of Lionel Gelber Prize issued by University of Toronto, gave a talk entitled “My Writing of Deng Xiaoping and the Transformation of China” on November 8, 2012. Prof. Wu Xinbo from the School of International Relations and Public Affairs hosted the lecture. Prof. Vogel was believed to the the only scholar in America who is proficient in both Chinese and Japanese affairs. Many faculty members and graduate students in SIRPA as well as students from other schools attended the lecture.

After ten years of great concentration, a lot of interviews and accumulation of materials, the book Deng Xiaoping and the Transformation of China was published in March 2000. Prof. Vogel focused on the political career of Deng Xiaoping and his contributions in foreign affairs, based on his own evaluation of Deng Xiaoping. He also expressed his admiration for Deng Xiaoping.
