Political Development in time of Crisis:

Democracy, State, and Governance

 

The Dr. Seaker Chan Center for Comparative Political Development Studies

The School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University

Apr 6-7, 2013

 

Since 2008 the world has been undergoing a major crisis that has already demonstrated its vast impacts on many landscapes of human life. Responses to this crisis in different parts of the world have reshaped our institutional and conceptual frameworks and have created new forces of convergences and divergences for countries’ path of political and public governance. Upon this background, the Dr. Seaker Chan Center for Comparative Political Development Studies of Fudan University will host an international academic conference “Political Development in Crisis: Democracy, State, and Governance”, with the cosponsorship of the School of International Relations and Public Affairs of Fudan University on April 6-7, 2013.

This conference aims to promote comparative research of political development and public governance. Both empirical and conceptual papers are welcome. Research topics might include, but are not limited to, comparative politics, comparative international relations, comparative public administration and public policy, research methods, etc.

The official language of the conference is English. 

Paper proposal submission

The proposal should be 1-page, including:

(1) Author(s) name, title, and institutional affiliation;

(2) Contact details of first named author;

(3) Paper title; and

(4) The abstract of the paper that identifies the research question, research design, methods, data and expected findings.

 

Please submit your proposal by Feb 15 of 2013. Proposal should be submitted to: (ccpds@fudan.edu.cn). Acceptance decision will be made 2 weeks after the submission of the proposal.

 

Conference logistics

The host will provide local accommodation including hotel and meals during the conference. There is no registration fee.

 

Publication plan

Selected papers will be translated and published on a CSSCI-index journal, Fudan Political Science Review.

About the organizers

The Dr. Seaker Chan Center

The Dr. Seaker Chan Center for Comparative Political Development Studies (hereafter, the Chan Center) at Fudan University was established in 2012 thanks to a generous donation by Mr. Anson Chan, Chairman of Bonds Group of companies, in memory of his father, the later Dr. Seaker Chan who was a former professor of political science at Fudan University. 
        The mission of Chan Center is to contribute to public welfare by fostering democracy, rule of law, good governance, and social progress by addressing challenging issues in contemporary comparative politics, especially major national and regional changes and reforms in the era of globalization so that useful lessons can be drawn from these experiences.

The School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA)
